Liu Ling's Pants
Monday April 27, 2009
The Chinese poet Liu Ling (d. 265) was fond, apparently, of walking around his house stark naked. One day, some visitors – finding such behaviour disturbing and improper – asked him to explain himself. Liu Ling replied as follows: “I take heaven and earth for my pillars and roof, and the rooms of my house for my pants and coat. And now, what are you gentlemen doing in my pants?”
