Sixty-Four Chance Pieces and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

A few days after arriving here in Sofia, I was invited to the recent China/Bulgaria conference organised by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, where I gave a reading from my Sixty-Four Chance Pieces. The conference took place in Sofia’s wonderful archaeological museum, and I talked about the origins of my book (the first outline of which I wrote, by pure coincidence, sitting on the wall outside that same museum twelve years ago), the usefulness of the Yijing in encouraging creative thought, and the threads that link the mythical law-marker and inventor of human-culture Fu Xi with the Duracell bunny. It was a fun event, and it was good to reconnect with my China-related work, and to meet with new Bulgarian colleagues and with old friends.
